Duane Buttell
Jr. Vice Commander - Air Force

Colonel Duane A Buttell Jr. is an Officer and Life Member of VFW Post 5036. He served as a combat fighter pilot in Vietnam (153 missions) and flew fighter aircraft for the United States Air Force and the Kansas Air National Guard. (F-4, F-105, 5-100)

He also served as a Liaison Officer for the United States Air Force Academy, and retired from the military with 24 years of service.  His sixteen awards and commendations include the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with two silver oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Achievement Medal.

He flew for American Airlines and retired from American as an International Captain and Check Airman with 29 years of service.

Duane and his wife Judy are 40 yea residents of St. Charles. They have 2 children and 5 grandchildren.
