Americans celebrate our veterans by honoring them for their brave service to our nation. These courageous men and women who have donned the uniform did not do it for the praise or the accolades. They did it because they answered the call to duty, and they selflessly and heroically served our nation. All gave some, some gave all.
On Memorial Day, we stop to think about the courage and sacrifice shown by our brothers and sisters who have paid the ultimate price while serving our country. We visit the graves of those who gave literally all that they had to defend our shores and uphold our freedom. And we remember the words of President Ronald Reagan, who said, “The price for freedom at times has been high, but we have never been unwilling to pay that price.”
St Charles Veterans (VFW Post 5036, American Legion Post 342, and AmVets Post 503) Participate in 3 annual parades. We march in theSt Patrick's Day Parade, Memorial Day Parade, and the Electric Light Parade kicking off the Christmas season. We encourage all Veterans to join us for in the Memorial Day Parade where military vehicles are available for those who prefer to ride.
Each year you will see St Charles Veterans in the community distributing poppies. This tradition dates back to 1922. Disabled Veterans in VA Hospitals put together these poppies and the donations you provide goes towards helping Veterans in need. Please help by contributing to this noble cause.
Coming home doesn't mean the battle is over. With over 10 times the amount of veterans lost to suicide than to combat operations in the same time period, there has never been a more important time to TAKE A STAND and DO something to support our veterans!! If you are a Veteran in need of help please contact the confidential Veterans Crisis Line at 1-800-273-8255 and Press 1. If you or someone you know is suffering from PTSD, we have people that have shared a similar experience and are ready to help.
As yesterday's defenders of freedom, we want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks to become part of our elite group.
You were not alone over there. You are not alone now. There are 20
million veterans who would give their lives for you. Please don't take
yours.
